Adjust the indicator hand by turning the adjust wheel so that it points at the high tide position at the published time of the local high tide, then insert an Alkaline battery.
To obtain the most consistent results from your tide indicator clock, it is important that the initial setting is as exact as possible and then left alone until a new battery is required. - Daily adjustments will cause inaccuracy.
UNDERSTANDING TIDE CLOCKS Once set, your tide clock is synchronised with the Lunar cycle 24 Hours 50 minutes to the day. The Moon is the major controlling influence of the Earths tides. Tide clocks rotate twice per day approx, 12 hours 25 minutes per cycle corresponding with the two high and low tides of the day.
A full lunar period equals 29.53 earth days, during which time your tide indicator clock may indicate as much as an hour or so out, this is generally only for 4 or 5 days during a lunar period. This is not a fault, but due to the many other influences on Earths tides. Lunar and Solar activity, high and low atmospheric pressures, local and distant weather patterns, wind direction and velocity all these factors do affect daily tide times:- Tide clocks should not be compared with computer generated daily Tide Tables which cannot take these factors into account. For this reason our tide clocks are not described, promoted, or sold as an accurate instrument. Tide clocks do provide a guide to the tidal pattern for the location it has been set for providing at a glance the hours and direction of the tides, which is all most people need to help plan a day at the coast; that said, they can be surprisingly accurate over a lunar period.
Please Note: The adjustment wheel moves the indicator hand slowly (equivalent to a hour hand on a standard clock). Some Tide Movements may emit a gear noise sound, this is normal and should not effect its performance. Tide movements can be affected by temperature and humidify changes. Before calling after-sales service try removing the battery for a few minutes and wiggle the adjustment wheel forward and back a few times, then replace the battery securely.
